What WE Do

What is the purpose of the Compliance Evaluator?

The Springfield Police Department Compliance Evaluator oversees implementation of a Settlement Agreement between the City of Springfield and the U.S. Department of Justice, the result of an investigation into the former Narcotics Bureau of the Springfield Police Department. 


Following the investigation, the City of Springfield and the Department of Justice worked collaboratively to establish the Settlement Agreement, which outlines several systemic changes related to policies and procedures, training, accountability mechanisms, and beyond that the Springfield Police Department will undertake in the coming years. 


The Compliance Evaluator is an independent entity who was selected by the Parties following a rigorous process. The team will assess and report regularly to the Court on the status of reforms and implementation.
